Ranthambore: The Garh Of Tigers and Forts

If you’re planning a tiger safari in Rajasthan, Ranthambore should be on your list. Just a 2-hour drive from Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur is easily accessible via trains and road. It has something for everyone- a fort for history enthusiasts and safari for adventure-seekers and nature lovers. The fort dates back to 8th century and showcases the warfare and archaeology of Chauhan dynasty.

When to visit?

For safari- summers and winters are the best to spot tigers, otherwise monsoon is the ideal season for exploring the outskirts of the jungle and witnesses the green cover.

How to visit?

You can chose to fly into Sanganer International Airport or Udaipur Airport. There are frequent trains from both Jaipur and Udaipur, however it is suggested you combine it with your Jaipur trip.

Where to stay?

There are a couple of luxury resorts, swiss camps and homestays near Ranthambore. I chose to stay at Zana Resort which is just 1 km from the railway station.

Hotel Information

Situated amidst the jungle of Sawai Madhopur, Zana Resort is a beautiful property. It takes a 20-minute drive to reach the gates of forests, from where the safari starts. If you’re driving in your vehicle, you can easily find it on NH 08. However, the ones taking train can avail a cab transfer provided by the hotel. You can book your safari in advance with the hotel travel desk.

Water babies can enjoy a splash at the on-site pool and for closed groups and couples, the hotel staff organises a BBQ night by the pool or under mango tree in the verandah.

Rooms and Accommodation

There are three categories of villas to choose from- one family villas with connected rooms, one with private garden and one with a private jacuzzi. The villas are equipped with smart TVs, cosy beds, tea/coffee machines, couch and ample free space to lounge.

Food and Drinks

The on-site restaurants serves a variety of Rajasthani and international dishes to savour. If you’re a breakfast person, start your day with a dose of pyaaj kachori or poha with a side of hot coffee.
